After half a century of revolution, Nelson Mandela’s apartheid-free South Africa had finally come. But with the old enemy eliminated, new obstacles prevent this country from blooming into a true African democracy.
The country of South Africa has embarked on one of the world’s most inspirational transformations – the fall of apartheid and the rise of democracy. Finding Madiba will take the viewer on an emotionally charged journey of South Africa’s vibrant culture, beginning with Nelson Mandela’s awe-inspiring vision and leadership, through to the current presidency of Jacob Zuma. The film will shed light on the country’s stalled dreams and brutal problems as the South African government play host to the single largest sporting event in the world - the 2010 FIFA World Cup. As the games play out, one billion football fans from around the world will be observing the fledging nation. At the same moment in time, the dissatisfied civil society seeks what Mandela’s political party, the reigning African National Congress, originally promised.
The film will provide an intimate perspective of those living in absolute poverty, those living in the upper–class suburbs that ballooned from the apartheid era, ranging all demographics throughout the multiracial country, as well as the macro perspectives of thousands of tourists flocking to the country’s pristine beaches, colossal stadiums and luxurious hotels.
We will document the hopeful South Africans who still feel the emotional momentum from the fall of apartheid, but also portraying those who voice new criticism of a government that is not meeting the needs of the people. Finding Madiba will reignite the flame of possibility that set South Africa free sixteen years ago. |
